Update On California Unemployment Extension

Did you know that over 500,000 people have run out of California unemployment benefits? Lucky for those on unemployment in California a new round of unemployment extension of benefits is underway. This should provide much needed relief for those still out of work and whom have exhausted their benefits. In a new tax package there has been a reauthorization of the federal unemployment extension for 13 months for states with the highest unemployment rates, California being among them.

Applying For A Unemployment Extenstion

So what do you need to do to apply for an extension? Nothing, if you have already applied for benefits and been approved or are receiving benefits the California EDD will automatically submit you for an extension. The California EDD is ready to pay extended benefits to anyone who is eligibile and has run out of benefits once the new program is approved. There were over 250,000 recipients who were in danger of missing an unemployment check or payment on the EDD debit card who may be saved by this change by congress. For additional details on what the extension of benefits might mean to you please check out the official notice at the EDD web page at http://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/Federal_Unemployment_Insurance_Extensions.htm there you can find a schedule of UI claims, maximum weeks and deadlines for claims.

In a nutshell, your extension has been filed and as it says on the twitter feed, you’ll be notified if you are eligible for that extension of your unemployment insurance benefits.

EDD Debit Card BOA

Anyone getting disability benefits, unemployment benefits or payments for Family Medical Leave in the state of California are now being issued the Edd Debit Card BOA offering. This debit card has a Visa® brand and is therefore usable at any location that accepts Visa® credit cards. The Edd Debit Card BOA offering acts like any other debit card: it can be used to make purchases, and your eligible benefits are added to the card. The Edd Debit Card BOA offering allows you to make cash withdrawals too: you can take out money up to two times (following every deposit made onto the card) at an ATM without being charged any fee for doing so.
If you prefer not to use the card, you can visit any financial institution and take the cash off your card. However, you will want to monitor the Edd Debit Card BOA balance either by phone or online to make sure you do not incur any fees. Financial institutions other than Bank of America have no access to your card information. You also have the options of requesting a direct deposit transfer of your funds into your savings account or your personal checking account if you desire. When you make such a request your funds are automatically transferred to your chosen account via electronic means. If you want to make such a request you can call Bank of America at phone number (866) 692-9374 or the TTY line for the hearing impaired at phone number: (866) 656-5913.
If you opt for a direct deposit transfer of your funds, you do not need to have an existing savings or checking account with the Bank of America. In addition, you can have a direct deposit one time or you can request a recurring direct deposit so your funds are always directly deposited from your card to your chosen account. You also have the option of doing partial direct deposits: this allows you to leave some funds on the card and to deposit the remaining funds into your account.

Disability Debit Card

The Disability Debit Card offered to state of California residents getting disability payments is offered by Bank of America. In May, the Social Security Administration stopped issuing paper checks and is now putting funds on the Disability Debit Card. It is anticipated that this simple change in the way monies are handled will reduce government costs by more than $120 million. It is also anticipated that this will prove a green act: by putting benefits on a debit card, the government will be saving millions of pounds in paper.
The Disability Debit Card is a paper free method for getting your benefits. You are not charged for getting the card, but a few fees apply with its use. For example, if you make more than two withdrawals before you have another deposit put on your card, you are charged a $1.00 for every withdrawal over the two-withdrawal limit. Emergency transfer funds options cost you $15.00 too.
The California Disability Debit Card has been identified as one of the best in the United States. Since it has low fees, flexible methods for accessing cash, and the card is easy to use, many critics are calling the Disability Debit Card one of the best. The card allows you to get access to the payments you are eligible for every day of the week, twenty-four hours a day. You can spend funds directly by using the card or you can have your funds transferred into your personal accounts. Since the card has a Visa®, logo it is accepted in many stores as well as online.
When you get your debit card, it will have a sixteen-digit identification number and your name on the front of the card. This card is yours alone as no joint ownership of the card is permitted. You can contact the Bank of America at phone number (866) 692-9374 to activate the card for use.
